Fall sports at South Central recently wrapped up. There were TONS of successes for our student athletes and coaches this past fall. Our Volleyball team made a historic run, going 30-0 during the regular season, winning the PCC Round Robin, PCC Tournament, and Sectionals. They fell to Pioneer in the opening round of Regionals. A fantastic season for the Satellites!
Our football team also wrapped up its season with a sectional loss to Culver Community. The team finished 3-7 on the season with victories over Culver Community, Bishop Noll, and Lake Station.
Our Cross Country team saw two athletes make it to the Regionals of the State Tournament. Seniors Zak Kimmel and Matt Duttlinger represented South Central and Zak barely missed out on a chance to compete at the State Tournament. Great job to all of our Satellite runners this season!
Winter sports have already begun! Our Lady Satellite Basketball team had its first regular season game last night against Culver Community, coming away with an impressive 48-20 victory. The Satellites next game is @ LaVille High School on Saturday, 11/4.
Boys Basketball will begin its season shortly with their first game on November 21st vs. Wheeler at SC! Good luck Satellites!
Classroom Spotlight
Mr. Siford's PLTW Engineering Classroom
This week, Mr. Siford's PLTW Engineering classes are being spotlighted. Mr. Siford has been in the education field for 35 years, with the last 33 years at South Central. Not only does he lead our PLTW Engineering classes, but he also is the club sponsor for our highly popular Robotics Club.
Mr. Siford currently teaches a variety of PLTW courses including Intro to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Gateway to Technology. Students learn about a variety of topics that involve engineering concepts and utilize many programs, machines, and software that helps students design and build. Mr. Siford has done a tremendous job of receiving grants to help continue to give students access to cutting edge technology.
South Central Robotics Club currently competes in multiple contests throughout the school year and practices two mornings a week. The program competes during the school week against other schools as well as at major competitions held on Saturdays at different schools. The club continues to grow as more and more students see the neat things going on with the team!
According to Mr. Siford, the most enjoyable thing about being at South Central is the family atmosphere. Everyone looks out for everyone and is always willing to lend a helping hand. Here is what he has to say about his involvement with the Robotics Program:
"Our robotics program was started about ten years ago with the idea of giving students another avenue to learn about engineering, teamwork and problem-solving. We have practices that work around other activities and compete in a number of meets around this part of the state. Our four teams work together to produce robots that participate in Vex competitions trying to score points and show leadership. Our goal is to provide students with a way to belong to a team, participate in something that interests them and learn along the way."
Mr. Siford has been a mainstay at South Central and has impacted countless students during his career. We are lucky to have him lead such a well-respected program that provides a lot of opportunities for our students.
