My name is Michael Scheck and I am the band director at South Central. I was born and raised in a small town in North-East Ohio just east of the city of Akron. After graduating from Field High School in Mogadore, Ohio, I studied music at Bowling Green State University. In May of 2007, I earned a Bachelor of Music degree with majors in Music Education, Trumpet Performance, and Music Composition. After completing my undergraduate degree, I immediately began graduate work at Western Illinois University in Macomb. While attending WIU, I worked as a graduate assistant with the band program; I taught the marching band, pep band, and assisted with instruction and logistics of the concert bands. In May of 2009, I completed my Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance. I have been a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity, Music Educators National Conference, Society of Composers Inc., ASCAP, International Trumpet Guild, and American Federation of Musicians. My original compositions have been performed at many universities including Northwestern University, The University of Cincinnati, and The Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester and my arrangements for high school marching band have been performed by schools in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Georgia, and Idaho. I currently perform with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra and the La Porte City Band. I met my beautiful wife, Carey, while we were attending WIU. She is a music teacher at Kesling Intermediate School in La Porte and also teaches piano privately. We live in La Porte with our son, Rowan, and our dog, Ziggy.
